Vision U11 won the Huddersfield Cup for the second consecutive year having won it as U10’s last year On this occasion Vision faced the run away leaders of Division 2 , Barnsley based outfit North Gawber. In the first half North Gawber had the advantage of the slight slope and breeze and put the Vision defence under pressure especially from the keepers long kicks. The North Gawber players were winning most of the headers and gained control of midfield . They opened the scoring after fifteen minutes when a big punt from their keeper was latched on to by North Gawber forward who beat his marker and put an angled drive past keeper Liam Thompson. Throughout the first half North Gawber looked the more likely to add to their lead and Vision attacks were few and far between , however Vision were handed a life line when Tom Bentham was brought down on the edge of the area and the Linesman gave a penalty. Michael Hosty stepped up to take the penalty and put in a powerful drive that the North Gawber keeper almost stopped but the power in the shot saw the ball trickle over the line . The Vision defence were at full stretch in the first half and performed well to keep the score down so that they could go in at half time 1-1.
The second half was a different story with Vision gaining control of midfield and putting pressure on the North Gawber goal .Vision went into the lead when James Morris scored with a high shot from twenty yards after neat interplay with James Dennison. Vision continued to keep the pressure on, Michael Hosty hit the underside of the bar with a twenty yard pile driver after turning his man inside out, and there were several goalmouth scrambles that Vision were unable to convert. The third goal did come in the shape of a stooping header from Tom Bentham that powered into the bottom of the net from a Michael Hosty corner. Vision had other chances to increase their lead but could not capitalise on them. At the other end there were few real scares and Vision were able to hold out to win the Cup for the second year |
