In a match that was played for the most part under the arc of a perfect rainbow on a windy hillside in Honley, Vision found the pot of gold that so far had been missing for much of the season – team spirit. Vision had only ten available players including a stand in goalkeeper so the odds looked stacked against them yet the team produced the best display of the season to score a morale boosting victory. Unlike previous matches Vision were quick of the blocks James Dennison flicking in a left wing cross from Vaughan Williams in Visions first attack. Honley had hardly had the ball in Visions half when James Dennision again put Vision 2-0 to the good after only five minutes with a low drive. The pattern was set for the first 15 minutes as Honley were unable to get into the game and Vision added a third through Bradley Hawes . Honley finally began to get into the match which became an end to end battle and they pulled one goal back before Jacob Inman added a fourth for Vision. All the team were tracking back to help the defence but the they became rattled just before half time after some contentious decisions went against them – this period saw James Dennison head a powerful free kick off the line before the pressure told and Honley added a second to make the half time score 4-2. The match still felt to be in the balance but the Vision outfit recovered their composure and hit Honley with another one two with a breakaway goal from Ryan Whitfield who outpaced the Honley defence and a second from Jacob Inman – with the score at 6-2 there was still 20 minutes to play and the numerical advantage began to have an impact .Honley kept scoring at regular intervals to make the score 6-5 with just under ten minutes to play. However the team continued to play as a unit and Caden Wilkinson put in a man of the match display in central midfield to constantly win the ball back for Vision and break up the Honley attacks. There was relief all round as the final whistle went and the result bodes well for the rest of the season. |
