The depleted U12 squad was strengthen by a clutch of the U11’s for this match against Linthwaite. As in previous encounters the Linthwaite team had a physical advantage over Vision which meant that they had aerial superioty throughout the match and were a constant threat from set pieces- they also had a player who had developed a Rory Delapp type throw. The first half saw Vision playing against the slope and for most of the half the Vision goal was under pressure with several scrambles in a crowded goalmouth which saw the ball saved off the line at least three times and the post and crossbar hit .In this period they also conceded two goals. However it was not all one way traffic and Vision had a five minute spell camped in the Linthwaite half. In this period Vision were awarded a penalty but unfortunately failed to convert. With the half time score at 0-2 and the slope now in Visions favour all was not lost. Most of the half was spent with Vision trying to play through balls past the well organised Linthwaite defence who played a high line throughout. Finally the Vision attack succeeded and James Dennison latched on to a ball to outpace the Linthwaite defence and slot it past the keeper. However Linthwaite were always dangerous on the break and scored a third with a powerful shot on the turn which crashed in off the underside of the bar. With ten minutes to go Vision still had chances to even the match, Tom Bentham managed to breakthrough with but fired wide under pressure and with five minutes to go Vaughan Williams did a similar thing on the left flank and was able to convert. A frantic final period saw the previous composure of Linthwaite begin to evaporate but Vision were unable to find the finishing touch to equalise |
